Abandoned miliatary airfield in Korzunovo
The Luostari airfield, located within 100 km flight from Murmansk and Severomorsk, was commissioned by the Nazis in early spring of 1942. After the Nazis’ defeat in the Russian Arctic, it was renamed Korzunovo (call-sign Chugunka) and turned into an outpost of Soviet aviation that opposed the NATO during the Cold War. It is just 16 km, or a couple of minutes’ flight, away from Norway. By the mid-1990s, the last warplanes left it, but the runway is still in good condition, The airfield and surrouding country are now being used as a training range by the local armoured unit.
