Church of the One Hundred and Sixteen Righteous Martyrs of Pechenga
Built in Pechenga in 1908 at the place of the Trinity Church burnt down by the Swedish and Finnish troops on the Christmas night of 1589. After the Pechenga District became Finnish in 1920, Lutheran divine services were held at the church. After the Great Patriotic War finished, the military used the building for utility purposes. It was transferred to the Russian Orthodox Church in 1995. Since 1997, it housed the St. Triphon Pechenga Convent. Hidden in its undercroft is the grave of the 116 locally revered martyr monks killed in 1589. The church burned down in 2007. The communion cloth that survived the fire was moved into the adjacent monastic building erected in 2002 to serve as a teahouse for travellers, where Divine services were held occasionally.
