Common grave of soldiers of the Polar Division

Here the legendary Polar Division did its first battle. The memorial plaques keep the memory of its 632 officers and men killed in action. The formation of the Polar Division began on 5 September 1941. It was joined by more then ten thousand people of Murmansk: ship repair workers, railwaymen, dockers, fishermen, workers of social institutions and Communist party organisations, and several thousand members of paramilitary battalions of Murmansk City and Region. The unit took part in the battle between 15 September and 5 November 1941.
