Monument to Major Khmyrov’s field engineers at the bridge across the Ura river
Here on 19 July 1941 the field engineers of the 14th, 31st and 259th engineer battalions built a stone damb under enemy bombing and shelling, to replace a bridge that was constantly being destroyed by the German aviation. It was then used throughout the war for motor and horse-drawn vehicle traffic to and from the front. The works were directed by Major Khmyrov.
