Monument to Mikhail Babikov

The monument to Mikhail Babikov in Zapolyarny was unveiled in mid-1942. The enemy overran three border guard stations and killed nearly all their personnel. The machinne gunner Mikhail Babikov continued fighting even after being repeatedly wounded.

He ran out of ammo and began throwing hand grenades, and used the last one to blow up himself and Nazis. He was awarded Order of Lenin posthumously.
