Monument to Mikhail Ivchenko, Hero of the Soviet Union

Mikhail Lavrentyevich Ivchenko committed his heroic deed on the Maly Karikvaivish knoll on the first day of the Petsamo-Kirkenes Operation, 7 October 1944, when the 10th Infantry Division of the Guards stormed the Maly Karikvayvish hill south of Lake Chapr. He managed to approach the earth-and-timber emplacement that was spraying machine-gun fire, and cast a hand grenade inside; after the fire continued, he covered the firing slit with his body.
