Šuonijoki Waterfall

The Šuonijoki Waterfall is on the 5th kilometre of the Nikel-Prirechny highway. Its name means ‘Swamp River’ in Finnish and Sāmi, for there are lowlands and marshy grasslands along its banks. But it is actually one of the most scenic spots in the Murmansk Region. On 1986, the waterfall was declared a Monument of Nature.

Just before the bridge across the Šuonijoki, there is a small parking lot on the left. You may leave your car there and walk to your destination. You will not be mistaken. The water rushing down from eight metres’ hight is heard tens of metres away.
